We will donate $1.00 from the sale of each paperback book purchased or pre-ordered at one of the book launches, or through our website, to the Rocky Mountain Leukemia & Lymphoma Society . We will do this through the month of December.

“What Is A Hero?” is the story of Henry’s fight to survive Lymphoma cancer. He shares the diaries he wrote and the illustrations he drew while fighting the deadly disease. Interspersed with the diaries are stories of Henry growing up as a baby boomer, experiencing the sexual and drug revolution, the Vietnam war and the aftermath of World War II. The focus of his memoir is on his mother, who when faced with personal tragedy and financial hardship, managed to keep her family together against all odds. The lessons she taught were invaluable in Henry’s fight with cancer.
ABOUT THE AUTHORS:
Henry Peavler is a Real Estate Developer, self-proclaimed philosopher and humorist and an avid golfer. He was born in Springfield, Missouri and raised in eastern Colorado. He moved to Austin, Texas in 1973 where he raised his five children. He now divides his time between family in Austin, Texas, Denver, Colorado, Iowa City, Iowa and Mazatlan, Mexico.
Dan Peavler lives in Littleton, Colorado with his wife Helen. He grew up on the eastern plains of Colorado in the small town of Bennett. He graduated with a BA in Psychology from the University of Colorado in 1975. He has worked as a counselor, a coach, a real estate broker, and a bricklayer. He published his first book “Fatherhood a Journey Through” in 1997. His second book The Toastmaster will be available December 2016.
Our book launch in Bennett yesterday was just a wonderful experience. There is no other way to describe it. So many good and dear friends came and I want to acknowledge everyone–but afraid (or know) that I will leave some out. Thank you all for coming and, of course, thank you for buying my book. I hope you enjoy reading it.
I will say how special it was to have my first grade teacher, Mrs. Bernice Parker, come and visit. I was so surprised and honored that she made the trip from Denver with her son, Howell. They were a very special part of my early years and good friends with my mom and dad. Thank you Howell, and Mrs. Parker.
Henry (or Junior as I knew you in our Senior year at Bennett H.S.) – congratulations on your first publication! I’m looking forward to reading it. My son was diagnosed with Lymphoma in 2013 and went through chemo. We are glad to be on the other side of the treatments. Glad to hear you are doing well. Keep on writing!

Hello Zinnia! Thank you for writing. What a great surprise. Congratulations to your son (and you) and best of luck in his continued health. I had dinner with Don and Cassie Steele and Ida Jo Busnardo (Tupps) and Mario last night. We shared some memories and talked about a few of our old classmates.

Henry, I know you as Junior. I’m the youngest Barnett boy, Lloyd. Knew you, Bill, and Dan when I lived in Bennett as a little boy. Congratulations on your fight with lymphoma; keep it up! And of course, Congratulations on your book. Hope it does great!
Lloyd, So wonderful to hear from you. Thank you for your kind comments. I have been in remission for five years and enjoy every day. Of course I remember you and Harold very well. It’s funny how we don’t see each other for 50 years but the memories are still strong. I really enjoyed growing up in Bennett. Didn’t realize how poor we were until I got away for a few years, but I wouldn’t have changed anything even if we would have been rich.
I believe a cousin of yours came yesterday. I didn’t get a chance to visit with her but I think Dan did. Say hello to Harold for me and stay in touch.
