Stories Through The Ages College Edition 2018

Isabelle Mongeau

ON FRONT LAWNS: Isabelle Mongeau has written an absolutely fantastic story of childhood emotions seen from the viewpoint of a little girl who lives a seemingly normal life. With a dysfunctional mother and a new, mysterious neighbor the story is intense and thought provoking on many levels. This is a must read. Isabelle is a student at Emory University.

Isabelle Mongeau studies Creative Writing and Film at Emory University in Georgia. Though she loves life in Atlanta, she was raised in Wellesley, Massachusetts. From an early age, Isabelle learned that the fastest way to travel was to pick up a book. Besides opening up new worlds to her, she attributes much of her empathy and compassion to reading, and believes all children should have the experience of enjoying a good book. In addition to Living Springs Publishers, Isabelle has been published in Emory’s literary magazine, Alloy. Isabelle seeks to create stories that are both serious and entertaining. She is never short on inspiration as she is one of four children (excluding the family’s two giant, fluffy dogs, Ginger and Jake as “children”, though her mom may disagree). Isabelle comes from reading parents, and her mother, Kelley, is her first reader. She would like to thank her family and friends for their endless support. Return

She eventually finds that her time for providing for those desires is over in a ghastly sort of way. Amanda attends Eastern Shore Community College.

Growing up, Amanda Hemphill wanted to go to space and travel to fantasy worlds, but since she learned there are no fantasy worlds and she never grasped simple math, she decided to write about other worlds instead. She was born and raised on the Eastern Shore of Virginia, where she lives and writes to this day. When she is not being a student, she is working on a novel Return

Kelly Doyle

A SMALL TOWN: Kelly Doyle has created a powerful story of the dynamics of a small community. A terrible crime is committed--the line between right and wrong is blurred. The readers are left to wonder who was the victim and who was the perpetrator. Kelly is a student at Emory University

Kelly Doyle is a student studying creative writing and psychology at Emory University. She has been reading her entire life, from The Magic Tree House and Harry Potter, to Wuthering Heights and Americanah. Aside from loving the smell of paper, she has always felt that reading is the simplest way to reach out of the bubble of her existence and learn to understand, appreciate, and empathize with those who are different than her. It is for this reason that she writes not only her own perspective, but the perspectives she seeks to understand. She takes inspiration from her study of psychology to explore themes such as empathy, identity, and trauma in her stories. Her work has been published in Firewords Quarterly, Glass Mountain, Plain China (pending), and Alloy Literary Magazine. This is her second year being published in Stories through the Ages. She would like to thank her parents and brothers for their ever present faith and encouragement, and for ordering no less than a hundred copies of every magazine that includes her work. Return

Sarah Vita

LIFE IN COLOR: Sarah Vita presents a story that is probably as old as time--dreams of unexpected wealth and what can be done with it. Gavin Hayes is an average man who loses a good job at the bank only to discover a treasure in a very unlikely place. The beauty of this story is how Gavin manages his new found prosperity. Beautifully crafted and believable! Sarah is a student at Merrimack College.

Spending a semester abroad in Florence, Italy proved to be more than just pasta and pizza for author Sarah Vita. Sarah is an Education major and English minor, aspiring to be a third grade teacher and writer on the side. Upon graduation in one short year, Sarah will pursue a Master’s degree in Education and hopefully land a job where she can specialize in teaching Language Arts, as her passion is to teach children to love reading and writing as she did/still does. Going abroad, writing for her school’s online blog, and keeping a journal has helped Sarah strengthen her writing skills. Her inspiration stems from genuine, relatable experiences or events whether abroad, at school, in her small hometown of Hamden, Connecticut, or her favorite escape on Cape Cod. However, creative writing has always been an enjoyable stress reliever and mode of expression for her. This is her first publication, though definitely not her last as she returns to Merrimack College for her senior year. Return

Connor J. Walcott

CRITICAL NONCONFORMITY: What would the world be like if every living person looked, acted, and thought exactly the same? In the world Connor J. Walcott has created, this frightening possibility has become a reality. Well written and plausible, this story shows the effect of genetic engineering and government control gone horribly wrong, and follows one man’s search for individuality in an identical society. Connor attends Florida Atlantic University.

Connor Walcott is a proud life-long resident of Sunrise, Florida, and is currently a senior in the English department at Florida Atlantic University. Following his graduation in the fall of 2018, Connor plans on pursuing a career in editing and publishing, where his fierce devotion to absolute grammatical correctness can finally be put to good use. His hobbies are as diverse as they are trivial, and include laughing at his own cringe-worthy puns, having in-depth discussions about either politics or superhero movies, and quoting verbatim lines from every movie or TV show he’s ever seen. When he’s not busy writing, cramming for exams, or volunteering at his local church, Connor can usually be found obsessing over his hair, singing along (completely off-key) to ’80’s rock music, or relaxing in his favorite recliner with an iced tea in one hand and a video game controller in the other.
