When foreign powers use EMPs and gangs to paralyze American cities, while they storm the U.S. borders, Colonel Deb Lisco works to protect our nation. Her brother Ted and his granddaughter, Maddy find their way home to Colorado, after their flight is forced down in Utah. Hank, Jon and their families make their way from the Denver suburbs to the stronghold in eastern Colorado that Deb set up for them. The encounters the family has with strangers along the way show the best and worst of the human spirit.
Much of the novel was written in 2019, to be the first in a series of three books. It was created with the idea that, as a country, we need to work together to find a way to resolve our differences before they become all-consuming. As Colonel Deb states in the book, “I don’t believe for a second there is an enemy on the planet that can defeat us. But with all my heart I believe we are about to be tested.” Hopefully, as a nation, we can take the steps to make sure we are never tested.
